The hike from Sunnbüel around the magical Daubensee gives hikers the chance to recharge their batteries.
Distance 17.5 km
The crystal-clear Daubensee is located at 2,200 m. Amidst the beauty of nature, the idyllic lake invites you to linger. Switch off from the hustle and bustle of everyday life and enjoy the harmonious tranquillity of the mountain world. Thanks to the good wind conditions, kite surfers can occasionally be seen above the lake in summer. From November onwards, you will look in vain for the lake, because due to its shallow depth, it empties underground as winter approaches. In spring, the natural lake fills up via the snowmelt.
The Shepherds’ Festival takes place by Daubensee lake on the last day of July each year. The shepherds arrive with their sheep in the morning. The animals are held in check until “Gläck”, a mixture of bran and salt, has been spread. This is a really tasty treat for sheep. The 800 sheep then storm down the steep slopes. This traditional festival celebrates the close relationship between the Valaisians and Bernese.
